![]() ![]() Casey will put you on a list and will call you when the hunting is hot. I was looking to join a club next year, but instead, I think I am going to book multiple hunts with this outfitter instead. We traveled back to our truck, took pictures and paid for the hunt. He kept telling us it was his job and we were there to be spoiled and just have fun. Heck, Casey even called in to check in on us and make sure everything was alright.Īt the end of the hunt, we helped pick up the blind even though Derrick objected. He made sure everything was perfect for us and was patient with me and my awkward shooting stance. He is a world class caller and he works hard for you to get your birds. I highly recommend CICC outdoors and while I have heard great reviews about Casey, I can tell you Derrick is a top notch guide. Our total was 5 Northern Pintails (all bulls), 4 Green Winged Teal (all drakes), 1 Eurasian Wigeon (drake), 1 Magical Magestic Northern Shoveler (drake) and the rest were American Wigeon (mixed bag of drakes and hens). We ended our day with all three of us getting our limits. I made the best shot I have ever made on a Green Winged Teal ever. Matt and Derrick both doubled up on shots and it was common for one of us to hit a duck and the other finish it. We were calling the ducks in and calling our shots. Pintails, Teal, Wigeon, a few woodies and of course, the Majestic and Magical Northern Shoveler. Derrick was calling the birds in, Matt was also accompanying him on the Teal/Pintail whistle. What happened for the next 40 minutes was the most epic 40 minutes of duck hunting I have ever experienced. Very cool! The morning progressed and although there were some slow spots, we scraped out 1 and a half limits by 9:50am. When the dog came in with Matt's bird, we noticed it was a Eurasian Wigeon. Two minutes into shooting light and two ducks in the bag. ![]() Matt took the lead drake and I shot the hen that was accompanying the drake in their magic flight. At first light, Derrick called in a a group of about 10 Wigeon. Each is equipped with rotating stools, shelves for your ammo and a cover to keep you concealed. The blinds are excellnt pit blinds that can accomodate around 4 hunters. Matt climbed in the blind and Derrick went off to stash the vehicle. They got me all situated and made sure I was comfortable. Matt and Derrick helped me get out of the vehicle and into the blind. I am disabled and so Derrick came equipped with an 8 wheel argonaut transport vehicle and drove us through the flooded rice, right up to the blind. My buddy and I didn't have to do anything. He loaded all the gear and introduced us to his dog Morgan. Derrick really knows how to take care of his customers. Casey Stafford coordinates and also guides hunts but today, we went with his employee, Derrick. We parked and got introduced while putting on our waders and getting our gear. We met up with our guide at 6am in Gridley at the Black Bear Diner parking lot and followed him to the property. So I did and at 3am we were on the road to Gridley. My friend and neighbor Matt told me if she backed out to call him, even if last minute and he would take her place. It is an interesting situation and let's say that she had to back out (for the second time in as many weeks) on this hunt. My daughter Cindy is now over 18 and living with her boyfriend. Today was an absolutely epic hunting adventure.
